We can get Higher Teichmüller theory by replacing by something else. We describe what the Hitchin component is. A different view points state that the Hitchin component is the space of all distinct convex projective structures. A third characterisation of the Hitchin component describes it as something connected to a complex structures.
I’m not quite following, maybe because I missed the very first part. It seems like we are constantly trying to find different characterisations of the same thing.
